Picture a curly Peruvian: the Alpaca has long hair that grows forward over the face like a Peruvian, but in Texel-style ringlets, usually with two rosettes at the rear.

That combination of forward growth and curl makes it a high-maintenance coat that needs frequent gentle combing to stay mat-free. It is a rarer breed you will not find in most pet shops.

Under the ringlets they are playful, gentle pigs. Best for an owner who enjoys grooming as part of the routine.

Grooming & care: This is a long-haired breed, so budget a few minutes of grooming several times a week. Our grooming guide walks through the routine.
