Where to buy & sell a guinea pig

The whole map of the hobby: reputable breeders, rescues, classifieds and stores. Meet locally, never ship, and always ask to see the piggy first.

Breeder associations

American Cavy Breeders Association (ACBA)

The national club. Their member list is the best way to find reputable long-hair breeders.

Local & regional cavy clubs

Shows and clubs near you, where breeders gather and you can meet piggies in person.

Rescues & adoption

Petfinder (guinea pigs)

Search adoptable guinea pigs by ZIP code. Adopting saves a life and often includes a health check.

Local guinea pig rescues

Dedicated cavy rescues screen for health and temperament, worth a look before buying.

Classifieds (buy & sell)

Hoobly

The main classifieds site where guinea pigs actually change hands. Meet locally, never ship.

Local Facebook groups

Regional guinea pig and rehoming groups. (Facebook Marketplace itself bans animal sales.)

Pet stores

What the big-box stores carry

Handy for supplies, but for a healthy long-hair we prefer a breeder or rescue you can talk to.

Selling a guinea pig? List locally with clear photos, be honest about sex and age, charge a small rehoming fee to screen for serious homes, and meet in a public place or your porch. Never ship an animal.
