The Skinny Pig is almost entirely hairless, with skin left bare except for a little fuzz on the muzzle, feet and legs. A related breed, the Baldwin, is born furred and then loses it all.

No coat means special care rather than no care: they get cold easily and burn in the sun, so they need a warm room, extra bedding, and no direct sunlight. They also eat more to stay warm, and their exposed skin needs gentle cleaning and occasional moisturising with a vet-safe product.

Skinnies are famously affectionate and love to snuggle for warmth. A rewarding but higher-needs pet best suited to an experienced, attentive owner.

Grooming & care: A short, easy coat, but every guinea pig still needs unlimited hay, a big cage, a companion, and daily vitamin C.
